Today is Shani Amavasya, the New Moon that marks the birthday of Saturn. This is considered one of the most potent times to propitiate Saturn, especially, if you feel his energy strongly in your life.  Saturn is said to be the lord of karma.  He governs discipline, death and aging cycles, and the passage of time itself.  He often appears in our lives as delays, pressures, obstacles and a sense of limitation, yet all of these are ultimately trying to shape us through diligence and endurance.

The gift Saturn offers, when appeased, is steadfastness and the power to work hard towards long term goals. Today is an ideal time to reflect on our relationship with work, commitment, and long-term vision. However, the New Moon is never the day to initiate action. In Vedic thought, Amavasya is best suited for contemplation, penances, and internal realignment. Wait a few days before acting on any insights that may come.

Both Saturn and the Amavasya tithi are also associated with the ancestors, making this an especially auspicious day for ancestral practices, if you have one.

One of the most revered remedies for Saturn is the recitation or listening of the Sri Rudram. Rudra, the fierce form of Shiva, shows us the path of discipline purified through devotion. The dedicated study and regular recitation of this chant is a powerful way to receive the blessings of Saturn.

Love and Blessings,
