New Moon Eclipse

New Moon Eclipse

Scorpio and Jyestha<!–

Amabasya Eclipse greetings to all!

This new moon solar eclipse culminates on December 3rd at 11:42 pm PST in the sign of Scorpio and the lunar house of Jyestha.

This is a total solar eclipse, yet it mostly occurs over the South Pole, and is partially visible in parts of South Africa.  This will tend towards less effect for many of us, as the eclipse effects are said to be stronger when the eclipse passes over where you live, and yet it is curiously aligned with recent news coming out of South Africa.  Still, eclipses can be intense events for anyone regardless of location, and are historically seen as negative omens.  Eclipses are created by the north and south nodes, Rahu and Ketu, which are our shadow planets.  They can cause confusion, delusion, sudden events, separation, and generally speaking tend to cloud situations.  That is why it is advisable to lay low during and eclipse.  It’s best if on Friday (in the US) you can keep it simple and not make any major decisions or initiate new activities on this day.

Scorpio is an intense part of the zodiac, being the natural 8th house which is all about change and transformation.  Scorpio can indicate our deepest insecurities and primal desires.  An eclipse here, especially if you have important planets around 18 degrees Scorpio, can bring up fears, anxieties, and worries.  The window for the eclipse is said to be 3 days on either side, but December 3rd is the strongest day.  Friday is a day to practice non reactivity, and to just sit with intense emotions if you have them and be particularly careful not to project them outward.  New moons tend to give us a feeling of lack, so try not to indulge too much in what feels like is missing, and keep your mind out of too much negative thinking if you can.

Eclipses are good for spiritual practice, especially this one as the Sun and the Moon are with Ketu, the planet of spirituality.  The lunar house of this eclipse is Jysetha, which is ruled by Indra, the king of the gods. Indra has tremendous power and potency, and yet the myths surrounding him speak of many ill- adventures based on ego and aggrandized self-importance.  He yields a thunderbolt, which is both destructive and transformative depending on how it is used.

Scorpio and this eclipse is much like that.  If we can use the intensity of the eclipse and the deeply transformative energy of Scorpio for positive within us, it can be a most powerful tool for change.  There is a triumphant and regal energy that comes from Jyestha, which can indicate overcoming our obstacles and challenges.  But it’s very important to not get too self oriented and remember how our actions impact others.  The symbol of this lunar house is a talisman, a protective amulet.  When times get challenging, be sure to call in that personal protection in whatever form it takes for you.

The protective mantra of Indra is Om Indraaya Namah, which is a mantra that can be practiced by anyone on the day of the eclipse if you feel called to do so.

As always reach out if I can support you in any way.
Love and Blessings,
