Nag Panchami

Nag Panchami

Nag Panchami is the annual day of the worship of the Serpent energy.  This falls on the 5th day of the waxing moon in the month of Sravana, the month of Shiva.  Serpent energy is of two kinds, Nagas and Sarpas.  Though the words are commonly used interchangeably, their power is different.  Nagas are considered the higher form of serpent energy, connected with Shiva and the kundalini energy.  Their energy is not harmful and can be considered beneficial.  Sarpas are the lower form of this energy, connected with obstacles and even misfortune.

Today we worship the energy of the Nagas in their divine serpent form.  This is a particularly beneficial puja day for anyone in a Rahu or Ketu time period, or for those under difficulties from either of these planets.  Praying to Shiva is the remedy to remove this obstacle.
