Happy Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is the day the Sun moves in to the sign of Capricorn. Though we have a Sankranti each month mid month when the Sun changes signs, this one is particularly significant.

Though we have many ways to measure time, one of them is through two 6 month periods of the year called Dakshinayana and Uttarayana. This day, when the Sun moves into Capricorn, marks the 6 month period when the days get longer. It is considered the more blessed part of the year, the time of year where endeavors grow and become more successful.

This is a day celebrated in many different ways throughout India, but essentially it is the day to worship the Sun God and to welcome the returning of the light.

We can acknowledge this day with a prayer to the Sun, by clearing out the old and welcoming the new, and by moving from darkness to the light, however that symbolically looks to you.

Love and Blessings,
