After several months of retrogression, Jupiter has now resumed his direct motion in the sign of Gemini. On December 5th retrograde Jupiter entered Gemini, after a brief month of retrogression in Cancer. Retrogression turns the planet’s influence inward. It invites reflection. It asks us to pause, review, and reconsider the areas of life that it impacts. For Jupiter, the great Guru among the planets, this means a period of reviewing our understanding, our beliefs, and the wisdom we are cultivating in our lives. In Gemini this focus is particularly connected to learning, communication, and the acquiring and exchanging of knowledge.
Jupiter is not particularly comfortable in the Mercury-ruled sign of Gemini. In the mythology of the planets, Mercury is born from the illegitimate relationship of Jupiter’s wife, creating a complex stepfather-stepson relationship between the two. Symbolically this reflects the tension between their natures. Though both are wisdom planets, Jupiter represents stable wisdom, guidance, dharma. Mercury is curious, restless and constantly seeking new information. Mercury gathers knowledge and Jupiter distills it into wisdom.
Because of this, Jupiter in Gemini can feel scattered and uncertain about where to put its focus rather than expansive. Still, as both are planets of learning, the cycle of Jupiter in Gemini that began May 14th 2025 favors acquiring and assimilating knowledge, networking and expanding connections, and technological advancements.
Over these last few months of Jupiter’s retrograde phase we may not have felt as directed in our studies or in the acquiring of knowledge. We may have been confused of where the best place was to focus our energy, or what teachings were the most meaningful to us. Now as Jupiter turns direct clarity begins to return. As Jupiter moves forward he offers us renewed focus- especially in areas of learning and sharing knowledge, receiving guidance from teachers or elders, and an increased ability to communicate effectively. We begin to see the light of Jupiter’s wisdom illuminating our path ahead, and the insights gained in the retrograde period can now be integrated and applied.
