Today is the fifth day of the waxing Moon cycle in the month of Magha, celebrated as the day of Maa Saraswati—the goddess of wisdom, learning, music, and discernment.

This day falls during the waxing Moon, a phase connected with growth and steady accumulation. It is a supportive time to set intentions related to study or creative discipline. As with many observances in the Vedic calendar during this period, this holiday marks a seasonal shift toward spring that many of us are not yet fully experiencing.

Observing simple rituals today helps us align with the direction and intention of the season, even if its full expression has not yet arrived. Placing books, study materials, or musical instruments on an altar can serve as a symbolic offering, inviting Saraswati’s blessing on our learning and creative efforts in the year ahead. This is also a good moment to reflect on learning goals for the coming year and to begin or recommit to a study, practice, or habit you intend to build steadily over time.
