Full Moon in Libra- Vishaka Nakshatra
Today’s full moon occurs in the sidereal sign of Libra, in the nakshatra of Vishakha, reaching its culmination on May 12th at 9:55 am pacific time. This makes the night of May 11th the height of the full moon in the sky.
This Vaishaka full moon is celebrated as Buddha Purnima- the birth, death, and enlightenment day of Gautama Buddha. It is a very auspicious day for spiritual practice, acts of charity and donation, and silence.
This full moon culminates at the very end of Libra, highlighting themes of balance and equality. Having the symbol of the scales, Libra often represents where we are out of balance and need to come into greater harmony. The lunar house of Vishakha is ruled by 2 deities, Agni and Indra, which can support success in both the spiritual and material world, but only after a period of significant struggle. The ‘forked nature’ of this lunar placement, along with the airy nature of the sign of Libra, can give us power to achieve many goals, albeit with a scattered focus. It is important to look at this next lunar cycle and be clear about where we are focusing our energy if we would like that area of life to flourish.
This upcoming week brings two significant and long-term planetary shifts. Jupiter moves from Taurus into Gemini on May 14, 2025, beginning a year-long transit through Gemini. Jupiter in Gemini emphasizes learning, communication, and likely the further expansion of technology into our practical everyday lives. On May 18th Rahu and Ketu shift signs, when Rahu enters Aquarius and Ketu enters Leo. This nodal transit, lasting for the next 18 months, highlights deep themes of individuality and collective responsibility, calling us to examine how our personal selves both align with or come in contrast to the broader societal structures we engage in.
The shift of multiple slow-moving planets within a single week is an uncommon occurrence. With Saturn having changed signs at the end of March, we’re now seeing all the major slower planets transition within a short span of time. This collective movement can create a sense of instability or “wobble” in our personal lives—making this a time better suited for observation rather than immediate action.
If you’d like to explore how these recent transits may be affecting you personally, and how best to prepare for the changes ahead, I invite you to schedule a follow-up session. Be sure to mention this focus in the comments when booking.
And Happy Day of Maa to all the Mothers out there!
