Full Moon Eclipse in Aries
and very auspicious Kartik Purnima<!–
Full Moon Eclipse in Aries Monday November 8th 3:01 am PST
This Full Moon is known as Kartik Purnima, one of the most auspicious full moons of the year. Kartik Purnima is also called the Diwali of the Gods, the festival of light for the heavenly realm. It is a very potent time to do any sort of spiritual ceremony or to receive an initiation or a mantra.
This year’s Deva Diwali also falls on an eclipse, which are considered inauspicious. As eclipses come in pairs, this is the second one following the solar eclipse in October. Tonight’s lunar eclipse is visible in the western US, and partially visible in Asia and South America. The areas of the total visibility are marked in red in the above picture.
On the West Coast of the US, the eclipse begins at midnight and reaches its fullness at 3 am on Tuesday, November 8th. As tempting as it may be to look at the full moon tonight, the ancients tell us that looking at an eclipse intensifies the potential for negative effects.
This particular one happens with the Moon conjunct Rahu, the bodyless head with its all-consumptive energy. Their connection alone can cause anxiety and mental disturbance, and the addition of the eclipse can intensify this even more. Both Moon and Rahu are in the fiery sign of Aries, in the lunar house of Bharani. Bharani’s energy is the power to carry things away and symbolizes the clearing out of that which is no longer needed. The carrying away is required to make the spaciousness for new life to be born.
The effects of this particular eclipse cycle have been quite strong due to the involvement of multiple planets in Aries and Libra. People with prominent placements in either of these signs will feel these effects even more, but it’s a good idea for all to chant their mantras and keep the mind calm for this window of time.
