Chaitra Pratipad- Happy New Year

Chaitra Pratipad- Happy New Year

and Some New Year Offerings!<!–

Today is Chaitra Pratipad, the first day of the Vedic Month of Chaitra, celebrating the New Year!

I figured that if your inboxes and feeds were anything like mine you have been inundated with messages about the ‘Great American Eclipse’ and all that entailed.  Eclipses are seen as inauspicious and yet very powerful vehicles of change.  Eclipses come about every 6 months, which means they often conclude a previous cycle of 6 months or begin a new one.  Ecliptic effects can be felt for up to 6 months.

This was a strong and long one that passed right through the US, making an X in the state of Texas with the path of the last ‘Great American Eclipse’ of 2017.

In any case, I decided to wait to send out a message today after we had crossed over the eclipse.  In South India (where I used to live) today is called Ugadi, which translates to ‘age’ ‘beginning’, or the beginning of the New Age.

This is the New Year of the Vedic Calendar.

This year it fell on my Solar Birthday.  It also begins the Vasant (Spring) Navaratri.  The more celebrated Nine Nights of the Goddess is in October, but this spring festival is the Goddess in Her form of fertility and abundance.

In addition to the beginning of Navaratri, on this day in South India the Panchanga for the year is read and annual predictions are made.  Panchanga is the 5 limbs of time that tell us, in this context, about how the quality of time will be- for the locality, the harvest, the people, the animals, and the abundance or lack thereof that can be expected for the upcoming year.

I am including a link of Narasimha Rao’s reading and prediction of the Panchanga here. The first part is more world predictions and the second part covers particular lunar houses and rising signs.  Of course when trying to apply it to our personal charts we should remember that this is simply one piece and a more detailed overview of the year is based on much more.

Every year gets a name, and this one is Krodhi Samvatsara, ‘angry year’. When the year is seen as less favorable it is even more important for us to do good actions and generate positivity in our environments!

One of the ways we ensure good outcomes is through Muhurta, good timings to initiate actions.  This year I have put together a list of positive and negative days each month for the next 12 months.  This is by no means an exhaustive list, but this is an excellent resource for those new to astrology to have a general overview of which days are more favorable and what are the days to avoid when initiating an action.  Please note that for timing major life events (like marriage or starting a business etc) a more specific date for your chart is recommended, which is by appointment basis.

For now I am charging $54 for this list.

You can follow the link here to make the payment and I will send a printable list by the end of the week.

I wish you all a prosperous ‘Beginning of the New Age’ and am always available to assist you in this in any way I can.

Love and Blessings,

I will also be starting off this New Year by studying Sanskrit.  This is a beginner’s course led by my husband Amarnath.  In 6 weeks we will focus on reading, writing, and pronunciation.

All classes will be recorded if you can not attend live.  You can contact either of us for registration.  Hope to see you there!
