Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya

And Jupiter’s arrival into Aries<!–

Akshaya Tritiya is the never diminishing day

This is one of the most auspicious days of the Vedic Calendar.  It happens once a year when the Sun and the Moon are both in their places of exaltation- Aries for the Sun and Taurus for the Moon.  It is said that all activities on this day are indestructible and grow over time.

We can look at this on many levels.
On a material level it is a day where people buy gold and jewelry to make wealth increase and to create material security for the future.
Donations to charities are another way of increasing our service and good deeds.
Spiritually, practice and rituals are performed to seek blessings of the divine.  Meditation and mantra practice are also included here, practices to increase our spiritual well-being.

On another level, Akshaya Tritiya is a day for new beginnings.  However, we are right in the middle of an eclipse cycle, the first solar eclipse on April 17th and the upcoming Lunar eclipse on May 5th. Also, today Jupiter moved from Pisces to Aries and is in the shaky in between water and fire signs area called gandanta. As Jupiter changes signs only once a year, his influence makes a strong impact on the house he transits in your personal chart.  Both the eclipse and Jupiter’s transitional phase are considered destabilizing influences in the sky.

And of course, we also have the dreaded Mercury retrograde cycle from April 21st through May 14th.  Those of you who read me regularly know that Mercury retrograde gets too much hype and importance as a disturbing element, there are much stronger planets to consider!  And yet, retrograde cycles are not encouraged for signing contracts and agreements, things involving technical issues and communications may get complicated, and is more of a time of revisiting and looking inward rather than outward. The last couple days of April and the first couple days of May are particularly difficult for Mercury, as Mercury gets into close orbit with the Sun, creating further agitation.  Mercury’s energy is quick and retrograde cycles, where the planets actually appear to move backwards, remind us to be slow.

Despite all this, Akshaya Tritiya is considered an Abuj Muhurta, days that are auspicious in and of themselves and need no purification despite other factors.

Today seems like a good idea to ask the question- what do you want to increase in your life?  Do that today!

Love and Blessings,
