A Scorpio New Moon

This month’s new moon culminates on November 23rd at 2:57 pm PST, in the sign of Scorpio.  New moons are the day each month when the Moon and the Sun meet at the exact same degree.  It is always a time to be aware of, as the Moon in this invisible phase gets overpowered by the Sun and cannot offer the nurture and support it wants to give.

This one in particular is in the sign of Scorpio, where the Moon is debilitated and has even less security to offer.  There are also other planets affected by the new moon this month- Mercury, our planet of speech and communication, and Venus the planet of love and affection.  While benefic planets such as these in the same sign as the new moon can support the moon, they themselves can also get agitated by this association.  Further agitation also comes from the influence of our two fire planet, Sun and Mars, on Mercury and Venus.

What does this all mean?  For some, Thanksgiving is a celebratory day of family and friends.  For others, it can be a painful reminder of America’s history, and holidays can be triggering for many.  If you gather tomorrow, remember that the Moon that wants to be supportive of family and community is still too compromised to give assistance, as it will only be one day out of the new moon.  This can also weaken our ability to clearly communicate (Mercury) and casually enjoy (Venus).  Scorpio is a sign of intensity, not lightness!

So gather tomorrow if that’s your plan, but don’t be surprised if this year is a little less smooth.  Practicing self-restraint in speech, and more intentional positive regard for those around you will go a long way tomorrow. Be the reason those around you have a good day and let this message be a reminder to not add to the holiday chaos.
